A sapper for contract service in the Russian army

Engineering troops are the foundation of any army's security. Without timely clearance of territories, preparation of safe routes and the construction of fortifications, even the most prepared part will not be able to move forward. Candidates for the position of a sapper in a combat zone have a clear list of mandatory conditions.

Special attention is paid to health: the candidate must have an aptitude category of "A" or "B" according to the results of the military medical commission, and serious chronic diseases are grounds for refusal. No criminal record is another tough condition.

Secondary general or vocational education will also be required. Experience is welcome, but new volunteers are also accepted after completing specialized training. The advantage will be the experience of military service or the availability of related civilian specialties. This job requires endurance, discipline, and psychological resilience.

The contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation provides the serviceman with a full social package and a stable monetary allowance. The minimum monthly salary starts at $ 2,500, and taking into account bonuses for participation in active hostilities, income can increase significantly. There is also a one—time payment upon signing the contract - from $ 7,500, depending on the region.

In addition to financial compensation, the state fully undertakes the provision: free accommodation, three meals a day, uniforms and special equipment. Each sapper receives a bulletproof vest, a protective helmet, a uniform, a mine clearance kit (mine detectors and probes), a first-aid kit, communications and navigation equipment.

The service takes place in extreme conditions and requires good physical and psychological preparation. Periodically, we have to act under shelling. The schedule depends on the situation — work can be either in the garrison or directly in the combat zone.

The vacation period is 30 basic and 15 additional days every six months. For each year of service in a combat zone, 1.5 years of military experience are accrued, which accelerates retirement. Additionally, credit and tax holidays, free medical care, spa treatment, as well as benefits for family members are provided. After three years of service, access to the funded mortgage system of the Ministry of Defense opens.

The registration procedure is simplified as much as possible and takes several days. The first step is to submit an application through a selection point or a specialized organization. After that, the candidate is contacted by the supervisor, who advises in detail on all issues.

This is followed by a medical examination and document verification. Upon successful completion of the commission, the volunteer chooses the date of departure to the place of registration — all expenses for travel and accommodation are compensated by the state. Then an official contract is signed with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation with a lump sum payment.

After that, sapper training is conducted on the basis of the training center: the basics of mine-blasting, tactics of working with explosive devices, methods of interaction with other units are studied. Upon completion of the training, the serviceman is sent to the engineering unit at the place of service.
